All About Skin

A skin care routine is something that is so unique and individual for everyone, considering there is no completely identical skin type. Unlike most teenagers, I somehow (thank you to my genes) was able to avoid the whole acne phase. Seriously, I maybe saw a chin pimple once every few months. So, a proper skincare routine was pretty much non-existent to me; wash my face with water while in the shower and I was good to go.

Well, that was until University decided to teach me an extra lesson on stress breakouts, I had no other choice but to pick up on the trend. Today we are talking all about skin, and what my daily routine is these days!

The first product I use on my face when starting my routine is the Exact Gentle Skin Cleanser. To be honest, I picked up this product by accident. I was originally looking to buy a Cetaphil cleanser but the bottles look so similar and apparently I wasn’t paying attention!

This cleanser has, surprisingly, actually really helped my skin in the few months I’ve been using it. I suffer from dry patches on my face, and I find that this product is, in my opinion, comparable to more expensive products for what I need.

Typically, I use this product while in the shower with just one or two pumps and slathering it all over my face for a few minutes and rinsing it off.

Once I’ve rinsed off my cleanser, I apply about a quarter-size amount of Bioré Pore Unclogging Scrub and mix it with a tiny bit of water before putting it all over my face! I scrub for a few minutes before rinsing it off.

My inspiration for choosing this product was because of my love for the ever-so-popular Bioré Deep Cleansing Pore Strips, and I am very impressed by the quality of this product without it doing damage to my credit card. My skin has that clean, tight feeling every time I rinse it off!

One of the newest additions to my collection is the Andalou Naturals Enlightening Serum using Turmeric, Vitamin C, and a Fruit Stem Cell Complex.

I use this product after I’ve rinsed off the scrub and pat-dried my face. This all natural product is a little more pricey for the amount that you get. But I only use about one and a half pumps to cover my face and neck, so I expect it to last a while and make the purchase worth it! The formula is soft and velvety, and has a pleasant fruity smell!

Can you tell how much I love this product by the cringey photo of the near empty bottle?

I’ve been using the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer for over a year now (yes this little bottle has lasted me a whole year!!) and I couldn’t be more in love with it! It is a very gentle, velvety formula and absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave your face feeling greasy which I love! This product will always be worth the money, in my opinion, because when they say dramatically different, trust me they ain’t lying. This is the type of formula that you can put on a thin layer before bed, and when you wake up your face has that moisturized, dewey, refreshed look every single time. When I wake up, It almost feels like I’ve had a facial just hours before. If you’re in the market for a new moisturizer, I highly recommend!

This is the other new product in my collection, the Andalou Naturals Night Cream. Buying this was a little out of my comfort zone, since I love the Clinique moisturizer so much, but I’ve got to say I’ve been really impressed so far.

When you first open the package, the formula almost resembles that of a face mask, which is why you only need a fingertips worth to apply to your entire face and neck! When you apply it, it has a sort of cooling effect on your face and also has a slight smell of lavender, making it so relaxing and calming before going to bed! For the past week I’ve been using the Clinique moisturizer in the morning and the Andalou at night, and so far I’m enjoying having the difference in my routine!

The body wash I’ve been using lately is Aveeno’s Skin Relief Body Wash. I have psoriasis and a tendency to have dry and itchy skin, and I’ve found that the natural ingredients in Aveeno has helped to alleviate the discomfort I’d often feel when choosing a body wash for the smell rather than the product itself. After using it, it gives you that cool, refreshed, tight feeling like you’ve just scrubbed off all the bad stuff living on your body! I love this product because it leaves a really clean, soothed base that is ready to be moisturized! I would definitely recommend this, particularly in the winter months if you suffer from dry, irritated skin!

The Lush Dream Cream is by far the best moisturizer I have come across in a long, long time. It is a self-preserving formula, so you don’t have to keep it in the fridge and does not have an expiry date unlike many other Lush products. It is a hand and body lotion that is cool-to-touch, and soft to apply. I’m not even exaggerating when I say this cream literally locks the moisture in your skin for at least 12 hours after a simple application. I love putting this product on before bed, and when I wake up it feels as though I had just put it on! (Not to mention a life saver in those dry Kelowna winters) I wake up with soft, dewey, refreshed skin, which is enough to keep me from buying any other product for a while!

This is another product I recently just picked up, the washbeautyco. konjac bamboo charcoal sponge, helps to remove any excess oil and bacteria while you are washing your skin. One thing I love about this product in exchange for a regular loofa, is that it is biodegradable, cruelty free, and has minerals and antioxidants within the charcoal. I am, by no means, a vegan and 100% cruelty free person, but I do like to help the environment where possible and this is a super easy way to do so.

It can be used just with water, or using your favourite body wash (or face cleanser if that’s what you choose to use it for). It would be nice to have a little bit larger sponge, but it certainly still gets the job done!

To some this may seem like a lot and way too difficult, but for me this is how I can achieve my most healthiest and clean skin!
